Tehran Residents Discover 15+ Free Outdoor Gyms Across Public Parks
Tehran residents are flocking to public parks equipped with free fitness equipment as summer temperatures rise and demand for accessible wellness options grows.
How we reported this
Tehran’s municipal parks now host more than 40 dedicated outdoor fitness circuits, each fitted with pull-up bars, parallel bars and resistance machines installed in the past three years.
City officials expanded these stations after a 2024 health survey by the Tehran Municipality showed that 62 percent of adults aged 25 to 45 wanted low-cost exercise spots within walking distance of their homes. The new circuits sit inside existing green spaces rather than requiring new construction, allowing residents to combine cardio loops with strength work without paying gym fees.
Mellat Park circuit draws daily crowds
Along the eastern edge of Park-e Mellat, near the Valiasr Street entrance, a 400-metre gravel loop contains twelve stations spaced every 30 metres. Users move from leg-press platforms to rowing machines and then to balance beams, following numbered signs posted in both Persian and English. Morning sessions start at 6 a.m. when the park opens, and trainers from the local district sports office run free group circuits on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 a.m.
Two kilometres north, Laleh Park on Keshavarz Boulevard added its own circuit last October. The setup includes eight pull-up variations, dip stations and a shaded area with stretching mats under plane trees. The park’s central location means workers from nearby offices can complete a 30-minute routine during lunch breaks without leaving the neighbourhood.
Practical steps for first-time users
Both parks post QR codes at each station that link to short video demonstrations recorded by Tehran’s sports department. Visitors are advised to carry water and arrive before 10 a.m. during July and August when shade is limited. The equipment remains free year-round, though users must supply their own towels and mats. District offices update maintenance schedules on the Tehran Municipality website every Monday, listing any stations temporarily closed for repairs.
Residents who want to track progress can join the free “ParkFit Tehran” app launched in May 2025, which maps all 40 circuits and lets users log completed stations. Those seeking personalised guidance are encouraged to consult a local physician or certified trainer before beginning any new routine.
